Why Internet Explorer 6 Won't Go Away & How it Costs You Money

Bring Down IE Logo

IE6 a Product over eight years old

Communications and computer technology are known for their rapid growth and development. It seems now that every several months a new, game changing technology enters the market that improves the way individuals, communicate, entertain themselves, or do business. It is with this constant evolution in mind that it is truly remarkable that Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, which was first introduced in 2001, still holds a significant percentage of the web browser market share.

Why has Internet Explorer 6 lasted so long?

Internet Explorer 6 has outlived its usefulness for a variety of reasons. First, its rise to prominence was massive. As the default web browser installed with Windows XP, it gained a tremendous amount of market share. Despite the fact that Microsoft has since launched successors to XP in Windows Vista and Windows 7, XP is still by far the most popular operating system in terms of marketing share at over 50%. Additionally, many end users do not know that newer and improved versions exist and are available for free download.

Ok.. So its old and outdated. Who cares?

First, IE6 is notorious for its many security vulnerabilities. However, perhaps most aggravating is the fact that website that are designed well and look perfectly consistent in modern web browsers such as Internet Explorer 8, Mozilla Firefox, and the rapidly emerging Google Crome, will look completely distorted in Internet Explorer 6.
