The World Wide Web Consortium

Website Validation

You may or may not have seen these validation icons at the bottom of various web pages, including this one. However, what do these icons actually mean? And more importantly, why should you care? Most web pages are creating using a language known as HTML or some varient thereoff. The World Wide Web Consortium, or W3C, is a widely recognized authority for HTML standards and compliance. To learn more about W3C and its mission you can visit their website here.

Why bother with web standards?

What many internet users may not realize is that not all web browsers display web pages in the same fashion. For instance, HTML code that displays a web page perfectly in Microsoft's Internet Explorer may cause the same page to look totally incorrect in another browser such as Mozilla's Firefox, or Google's Crome.

By creating HTML and other web standards, you can assure HTML writers that their web pages will look the same in any standards complient browser. While not all major web browsers in use today are currently standards compliant, most major browsers are beggining to adopt the standards set out by the W3C.

So how does this positively affect you or your business?
